The social problem I chose was space debris. Through my research, I discovered the enormous amount of space debris actually floating around the Earth, so I decided to depict its quantity in my design. At the beginning of this module, I attended a workshop entitled “Bits en Betekenis”, where we had to use AI to make our poster (hence the title "A bit like..."). Using AI, I generated many different types of images. At first, the created images were very literal - showing the earth with junk floating around it- but I wanted something different. By experimenting with different input, I eventually got a more abstract image of the Earth in a dotted art style. At this point I decided to make the poster completely abstract, with multiple pictures of dotted art, each photo representing a specific amount of space junk. The final poster consists of 88 photos, each with a large circle, representing the Earth, surrounded by or filled with a large number of dots.
The title literally means that each image represents 1,500,000 pieces of space junk.
